Our state is set up into Area Education Agencies and each AEA employes at least on Parent Coordinator in the Special Education Division (coordinators are all parent of
special needs ourselves) to support families and educators who have children with special needs. The purpose of our program is to enhance communication between families and schools. We do this in various ways. Through newsletters, attending meeting with families, providing parent training programs and training for educators as well. We want to make sure parent have the opportunity to know their rights and are able to make decisions regarding their child. We also have resource libraries of books, videos to better help parents understand their child disability so they can become better advocates for their children. We have all your materials also. This year we will also be focusing on the transition of children from Part C to Part B, transition from preschool to school age and transition from school to post secondary or adult services.
